Many people think a dog would be a welcome addition to their family, but fail to consider the differences in breeds, both in temperament and in the specific needs of the breed. The dog owners personality should be considered first with breed selection. Is the owner single or will the owner be a family? Dogs feel they are part of a pack. Is the owner aggressive or timid? Is the owner active or rather inactive? Does the breed need to have a specific function the new ‘pack’ or will the dog be content to simply spend time only? How much time will you have for the dog? Different breeds have different characteristics that suit them to certain personalities and situations. Also, the dog’s environment is to be considered. How much space will the dog need? Will the dog require special areas to play or special small dog beds to relax in? If there is space enough for the dog to have his own bedding, or den, where he is not bothered and can go for quiet time? The dog has to have adequate room to both play and relax. Choosing the right breed takes time and research, but the effort is worth it. You will have not only a pet, but a companion!

Choosing the Right Breed

Today is my “off day”

This means I have some help from a babysitter, but my hubby is out of town so it almost cancels things out. I woke at 7pm and fed the kids. I packed the lunches the night before so only had to make sure they were dressed, teeth brushed and presentable by 7:55am. I had them turn on the TV so I could throw some clothes on and brush my teeth. We raced the 8miles to school. Dropped off two kids. Raced to the preschool where my daughter didn’t want to let me go, but after a story about a teddy bear I wrangled myself free. Then the good stuff starts. I had an acupuncture appointment. Apparently I am Chi deficient – which explains the gas and constant hunger apparently. Then it was off to spend way to much on the kids goggles and swim stuff for class that starts today. I did treat myself to a burger and beer while listening to the news in the sun.
I have the best dog ever

She is very old but we don’t know her exact age because I adopted her when she was already grown. We celebrate her birthday on her adoption day. She has arthritis but still wants to go for walks. The vet says walks are good because it helps to keep her joints lubricated, but we do have to make them short and slow. She is a very sweet old dog and is friendly to everyone, especially little kids. Little kids always come away from meeting her much cleaner because she licks them head to toe. She used to sleep on my bed but she’s too old to jump up now, so she has her own special bed. I kind of miss having her on my bed because now I can’t just give her a little shake when she snores.
It was never offered as an option to me when I was a little kid, because my folks thought I would be like every other kid and hate taking lessons. It’s very fun and I do enjoy practicing. I spend most of my time on scales, but I have learned a few songs. I used to play the clarinet, so having to deal with both a treble clef and a bass clef at the same time is totally new to me, as is playing more than one note at the same time! There’s no such thing as a chord on clarinet, unless you have another couple of clarinet players sitting next to you playing the other notes. I started with piano just a few months ago and am really seeing some progress.
